Historical Forms

  • Pertrichewolles 1378 IpmR
  • Pertriggewalles 1394 Ass
  • Pertryggewallis 1493 Ipm

The first element is clearly to be connected with the bird's name, but as 'partridge's wall' is an unreasonable name we should probably assume that Pertriche is here a ME surname of the nickname-type.So similarly Wallenberg (StudNP 2, 91).
