Etymology

This place and Brent (So), Brente 725 (14th) BCS, Brenteknol 1288 FF, are both isolated steep hills and Brent infra 290 is near a prominent hill though not an isolated one. In PN Sx 256, Ekwall suggests that these names may contain a lost noun- derivative of OE  brant , 'steep.'
