Etymology
This must contain OFr estraieure , 'goods left without an heir and hence passing to the lord' (Godefroi, Dictionnaire de l 'ancienne langue française s. v ). Here as in Straypark infra 317, it has been reduced to the more common 'stray,' used of beasts found without an owner.
