Etymology

No certainty is possible.Professor Ekwall suggests that the first element may be OE  Inghild (cf. OHG Inghild ) or Ingflǣd (feminine names), with unvoicing of g to c before h or f. Dr Ritter suggests OE  Incla , an l -derivative of OE  Inca , a pet-form of an OE  name in Ing -.
