Etymology

The first element is a pers. name Pila , which is apparently found in Pillaton (Co), DBPiletone , 1291 Tax Pylatone . Cf. also Pilmoor PN NRY 23. The exact meaning of the second element is not clear, but two ancient trackways met in this parish.
