Etymology

This must be near the lulca stile mentioned in land boundaries in the neighbourhood (BCS 1323). In that charter final n is often dropped, so we may take this to be for lulcan stile . Lulluc is on record in a Devon charter (BCS 451). Here we have a weak form Lull (u )ca. Hence, 'Lulca 's valley,' v. cumb .
