Etymology

The first element is probably the name of a medieval owner. Cf. Sparkaton supra 231, and Sparkhayes (So), Sperkheys 1419 Som Rec Soc 33, 168, to be associated with the family of Roger Sperke found in the parish in 1327 (SR ).
