Early-attested site in the Parish of Abbotsham

Historical Forms

  • Talte 1333 SR

Etymology

This is clearly allied to OE  tealt , 'unsteady.' Professor Ekwall notes that the verb tilt , a derivative of it, is used with the sense 'to slope' and suggests the possibility of an OE  tealt (e ), 'slope.'
