Historical Forms

  • Pueshille, Pyweshille 1333 SR

Etymology

This possibly contains the post-Conquest name Pyw found in Axminster in 1333 (SR ). This is not the well-known Welsh Pugh , which is of much later date, but more probably the French surname Puy .
