Etymology

Wingby (lost), Wengeby 1315, 1324 DbCh, Wyngeby 1392, 1424 ib, Wyngby 1392(p), 1429 ib, Wymby (sic)1393 ib (p), Whyngby 1430WollCh . Apparently 'Vængr's farm', v. . The first element is the ON  byname Vængr , from vængr 'wing'. Cf. NP 175.
