Etymology

'Boundary brook', v. scīr 1 , brōc . This is more likely than 'bright brook' (v. scir 2 ), since the place is situated on the Db-Nt county boundary. Shortening of the first element has taken place in many of the forms and the modern form is presumably influenced by the fact that it is on the shire boundary.
