Etymology

'New building', v. nīwe , bōðl , bold , with a single form from bōtl .It was distinguished as Nether and Over, v. neoðera , and cf. Over Newbold infra 278. The Dun is perhaps from the Dunn who gave his name to Dunston infra 277, or it is from OE  dūne 'down', as an alternative to Nether ; the latter is more likely in view of the age of Dunston.
