Etymology
Lady's Cross, Leuedicros Hy 3, 1263Beau , Lady Cross 1656, 1735Derby , a cross set up to Our Lady, probably to mark the boundary of the land of Beauchief Abbey in the area. v. hlǣfdige , cros . Although not now exactly on the parish boundary it has long served as a boundary stone for the parishes of Hathersage, Totley and Holmesfield as is shown by bounds of Hathersage (1656, 1735Derby ).
