Etymology

Peak Tor, Peketor (r )c. 1265BelCh , Piggetor 1385 HMCVar, Pygtorre 1481BelCh ; in spite of the variation of forms it seems best to assume that the first element is identical with that of Peak supra 1, for the second v. torr . It is a very prominent round, wooded hill.
