Etymology

'Island farm', v. ēg , tūn ; cf. Eaton Dovedale, Little and Long Eaton infra 550, 457, 458. The place is situated on a spur above the steeply-rising bank of the R. Dove overlooking a small island in the river. It is Cold from its exposed situation, v. cald . For the spelling Cole cf. Coal Aston supra 198.
