Limb Hill
Early-attested site in the Parish of Dore
Etymology
Limb Hill (6″), cf. Lymme 1330Ass (p), (del ) Lym 1333 DbA iii(p), Lymehaulefeld 1500 Hall iii, Lymhall 1540FF , Broode Lyme 1576 DbA xx, Limb 1822EnclA , near to which is Limb Brook supra 11.From the forms it would appear that the brook is named from the place and perhaps we should compare with The Lyme (PN La 23–6) and Lime Fm, Morley Lime infra 486. If so then it is an old wood name, a derivative of *lemo- 'elm', perhaps in the form *Lem a , PrW *Liῦ , which might mean 'elmy place'.
