Etymology

'Crōc's nook or corner of land', v. halh (dat.sg. hale ). The pers.n. Crōc is from ON  Krókr . Ekwall (DEPN) comments that the Scandinavian name here appears remarkably early but there is good evidence for such early settlement in South Derbyshire.
