Etymology

'Farmstead in a corner of land (between the Derwent and Overdale Brook)', v. scēat , tūn ; cf. Shatton (PN Cu 384). The modern Shatton was till comparatively recent times distinguished as Nether , cf. Upper Shatton infra 50.
