Bagthorpe Fm, Bagthorp (e )1330 Selden (p), 1405, 1491, 1501WollCh et passim , Baggethorp 1477 ib. 'Baggi's outlying farm', v. þorp , cf. Bagthorpe (PN Nt 131), Baglets (PN ERY 223). It is just possible that the place is named from a family from the Nt Bagthorpe.
