Etymology

'Bear-keeper's cottage', v. bera-weard (n), cot . Bearward is first instanced in 1399 (NED), but is found earlier in street-names; cf. Mount St (PN Nt 19) and Bearward St (PN Nth 7). v. also Thuresson 190–1.
