Etymology

'Alwald's farm', v. tūn ; cf. Alston (PN D 654) and for this pers.n. v. Feilitzen 154–5. It is impossible to decide how much weight can be placed on the late 15th-century copy of Wulfric Spot's Will which clearly suggests the OE  pers.n. Æðelwald , one of the two possible sources of Alwald .
