Early-attested site in the Parish of Tallentire
It is probable that these two names are really the same and that the first element was originally ON tví , 'two,' or conceivably the OE cognate twā and the second the plural of haugr. In that case, the name must have meant 'two mounds.' Cf. Trehos Wapentake (L) 'three mounds' (EHN i, 59) and Forehoe Hundred (Nf) 'four mounds' (EHN i, 78).
