Etymology

This is a compound of skálir , the plural of skáli , and a personal name—either a diminutive of OE  mann , or Irish Maenach , or possibly manaich , gen. sg. of manach , 'monk,' which Johnston takes to be the second element of Carmunnock (Glasgow) and Romanno (W. Linton) (PN Scot 126, 285).
