  • del Skulkerhouses 1332 SR

Etymology

It is carried back to the Middle Ages by the name of William del Skulkerhouses (1332 SR). If any trust is to be placed in the 1332 form, it might mean 'Skúli 's marsh' (v. kiarr ), to which 'houses' has been added. This ON personal name is found in Sculcoates (PN ERY 214) and Sculthorpe (Nf) (DEPN). It may, however, as Prof. Ekwall suggests, be skulker , used as a surname.
