Etymology

The second element is the British equivalent of Welsh  perth (PrimW  *pert ), 'thicket, brake,' found in Pertwood (PN W 176) and Peart (So). For its occurrence in Scotland v. CPNSc 356–7. The first element is obscure (DEPN s. n .).
