Etymology

Probably, as suggested by Lindkvist (liv), this name is a late - formation from ME  Lambin , a short form of the Flemish personal name Lambert , Lambercht . Sedgefield (72) prefers derivation from the ON  personal name Langbein , which to some extent is supported by the numerous early forms in -en . But the existence of what seems to be an identical place-name in Dumfriesshire (Lammynby 1488, PN Dumf 5) is on the whole in favour of derivation from a continental rather than a Scandinavian personal name.
