Etymology

This is clearly an OE compound in –ingtūn, like Harrington in this neighbourhood. Its first element seems to be the OE  personal name Rōta which is not found independently, but lies behind Rooting (K) and Rottingdean (Sx). It seems to be an early by-name, meaning the pleasant or merry one.
