Etymology

The first element is probably the plant-name ribbe , 'rib-wort, hounds-tongue.' Cf. the history of Ribbesford (PN Wo 68). The form Ribelton is isolated and derived from a manuscript which is too late to have independent authority. The second element is tūn .
