Etymology

'of the freedmen,' v. leysingr , or less probably, of a man named Leysing (NP 92, Lindkvist 132). The forms in -inge - are in favour of the former. It should be noted, however, that the name Leising was common in 12th-century Cumberland, as in Orm filius Leising (1179 P). Cf. Lazenby (PN NRY 160, 210).
