Cumrenton
Early-attested site in the Parish of Irthington
Etymology
Cf. Cumrintinge wood ib., Cumrenton Parke 1603 Gilsland. This is no doubt an old inversion compound (v. Introduction) containing British *cumbā , 'valley, combe' (Welsh cwm ). The forms are too late for any interpretation of the second element.
