St Christian's Chapel

Early-attested site in the Parish of Holme Abbey

Historical Forms

  • Saincte Cristyans Chapell 1538 AOMB

Etymology

The chapel no longer exists, but the site is marked on the 6–inch sheet. The dedication is presumably to Christian bishop of Whithem, who in 1186 was buried in Holm Cultram where he was afterwards looked on as a saint (StB x).
