Historical Forms

  • Cnochubert 1290 Ch
  • Knocheberde 1541 MinAcct

Etymology

Ekwall (ScandCelts 21–22) suggests that this may be Cnochubert 1290 Ch, an inversion compound consisting of OIr  cnocc, 'hillock,' and the personal name Hubert , of continental Germanic origin. It is possible that another reference to this place is Knocheberde 1541MinAcct .
