Historical Forms

  • Shaton 1322 Ipm 1323 Cl 1455 FF
  • Schaton 1399 Ipm

The forms are inconclusive, but they make it possible that this is identical with Shatton (Db), which is probably derived from OE  scēat, 'point' or 'comer, of land,' and tūn.
