Etymology

The earliest forms suggest that the first element is OWelsh  cateir , 'chair,' occasionally used of a mountain, as in Cader Idris (Merionethshire). The reference here may be to either of the two hills west of the place, or to the depression between them. Unless the second element be a personal name, no suggestion as to its interpretation can be offered.
