Etymology

'Alein 's .' A late -name, v. Introduction. Alein is a French personal name of Breton origin. Allonby is identical with Ellonby supra 240, to distinguish it from which near Skymburnesse was added in the 1323 form. Cf. also Allanton (PN Dumf 26, 1355 Alayntoun ).
