Etymology

'Wigan 's .' A late -name (v. Introduction). The first element is an OFr  personal name found as Wigan or Wigayn in the Wetheral Cartulary (12th). It is of Breton origin, corresponding to OBret Uuicon (Redon Cart 119), Uuecon (Chrest 172).
