Etymology

v. tūn . The first el. may be the OE  pers.n. Ella , which DEPN adduces for this p.n. and Elworth 226infra , which is partly in this township. However, the absence of Elle - forms suggests that this Elton is 'farm where eels are got', v. ēl 2 , tūn , cf. Elton 326infra .
