This ferry at Runcorn probably also gave name to Chiplode 1290 (17) Tab, a fishery, and to a place of waste called Shepelodmanwey 1370MinAcct , Shiplod (e )manway 1388, 1398, 1423MinAcct , Sheplondmanley 1443MinAcct , Sheplondmanlye 1452MinAcct , Shiplandmanley 1514MinAcct , Shipland 1487MinAcct , Shiplandenale 1507MinAcct , 'the ship passage and the common way to it', from scip 'a ship' (confused with scēp 'a sheep') and (ge)lād (confused with land 'land'), (ge)mǣne and weg (confused with lēah 'a clearing').
