Etymology

'The hill', from ofer2 , ufer . The principal hamlet, Great Over, was distinguished from Littler infra by grēat , mycel , magna , and also may have been the Chircheton noted at Church Hill infra . Over is on a pronounced ridge parallel to the R. Weaver. The p.ns. Over and Littler are paralleled by Mickleover and Littleover Db 483, 478.
