Etymology

'Wet nook', from wēt (wk.dat. wētan ) and halh (dat.sg. hale ), with grēne 2 and hall . The first el. is sometimes confused with hwǣten 'growing with wheat', cf. Vale Royal 179infra . The manor lay within the ancient forest of Mondrem 1 10.
