Bolshawecroft 1288Eyre (p) (Court 236 reads Bolshavecroft ), and Bollens (c )hawehefed 1291 Earw (255 infra ), 'tree-trunk copse', or 'pollard copse', v. bola or bolling , sceaga , croft , hēafod : 'the outlying wood', v. ūt , wudu . The original woodland extended into several townships, cf. Bolshaw 243supra , Outwood Fm and Outwood Hall 255, 250supra .
