Etymology

Wīglāf's farm', from tūn and the OE  pers.n. Wīglāf . The place is first mentioned in 1230, but it gave name to the DB hundred of Wilaveston , v. Wirral Hundred 167supra , cf. foll. It adjoins Little Neston 225supra . The affix -in Wirral distinguishes it from Willaston 378.
