Etymology

Hinderton, Hinderton Brow, Hinderton Hall & Hinderton Rd (109–305780), Hinder-town 1621 (1656) Sheaf, Hinderton 1831 Bry, cf. Hinderton Lodge 226infra .The form Hynderton 1336 Plea (DKR xxviii31) appears to be an error for Kynderton , Kinderton 2236. The p.n. means 'the part of the village which lies more to the back, the hinder part of the town', from hinder (cf. ON hindri adj) and toun , with (ge)hæg, feld , brū , hall . Hinderton Rd, in this and Little Neston townships, was Chester Lane 1831 Bry, named from Chester 336 infra . There were other Hindertons at 258, 302 infra .
