Etymology

Woodgreen Fm & Woodgreen Lane, Woodgreen Fm & Woodgreen Lane 1831 Bry, the woodgrene 1567 AD, 'green at a wood', v. wudu , grēne 2 , cf. 137supra , and boscus de Moneshull 'l13ChFor , boscus de Munsul 1278AddCh , Munshul (l )wod (e )1337ib , 1340, 1347ChFor , boscus de Mu (n )schull 1347, 1357ib , one of the woods of the forest of Mondrem 1 10, cf. boscus de Mondrem c.1304AddCh (in Church Minshull) and Bricius de Mondrem 1360 Orm2 (at Church Minshull). The forest's wood of Minshull included Wimboldsley 2257, and therefore probably Minshull Vernon also, cf. manerium de Wymbaldesle in bosco de Moneshull 'l13ChFor . Woodgreen Lane may be the same as Wetenalewei 1335AddCh , 'way leading to Wettenhall', from weg and Wettenhall, cf. Wettenhall Wood 167infra . Part of it, 137 supra , formed the boundary between Cholmondeston and Wettenhall.
