Etymology

This was used as an alternative name for Brimstage supra . It is probably the origin of the surname Brunston 1291–1323 Chest, 1398, 1407 ChRR, Brunstan 1418 ib, Brynston 1410 ib. It is 'Brūna's stone', from stān and the same OE  pers.n. Brūna as in Brimstage supra , Bromborough 236infra . No doubt the same man is involved, the stæþ and the stān at Brimstage may have been the limits of his territory. The park was about Brimstage Green infra , at 109–305819 adjacent to the boundary of Thornton Hough 230supra .
