Etymology

Tranmere Hall (lost, 109–317869), Tranmere Hall 1831 Bry, Tranmere Hall or Tranmere House 1716 Orm2. In 1663, Sheaf3 32 (7221), there were two mansions, the old hall , the new hall 1663 Sheaf3 32 (7221). The Old Hall to which the 1716 forms refer, was pulled down in 1863, the site being occupied by the street Tower Hill, cf. Sheaf3 26 (5913), (5931). The New Hall , so called down to 1863, to which the 1831 form refers, survived as the Old Hall until 1937, adjoining Greenway Rd, cf. Sheaf3 35 (7825), v. ald , nīwe , hall .
