Etymology

Dibbinsdale, Dibbinsdale Brook, Pultundale 1278–80 Chest, Pultondale 1291–1323 ib, Pulton Dale 1462 Orm2, cf. Dibbinsdale Brook, Dibbinsdale Lodge & Dibbinsdale Rd 242supra , Poulton Bridge infra . The modern name of this valley, which runs down to Bromborough Pool, appears as Dibbinsdale 1839TA 75 (Bromborough), Dibinsdale , Dibinsdale Brook 1842 OS.It is hard to see what its origin is, unless it be from dēoping 'a deep place' and dæl 1 . The older name was 'Poulton valley', from dæl 1 and Poulton supra .
