Etymology

'Hill-side grown with oaks', from āc and hangra , hongra , with mos , mere 1 , hǣð , wudu , hall . The spellings Woke - 1571, Woc - 1599 are due to stress-shifting in a diphthongized form of Oak -. The mere no longer exists. It was on Oakhanger Moss at 110–767550. It was le Meare 1577AddRoll , The Mere 1831 Bry, and gave name to Me (a )re Hethe 1536 Sheaf, Meere Heathe , Meyre Heathe 1589, 1597AddRoll and le Mere -Crofte 1575ib , Mere Corner , Mere Croft & Mere Field 1840TA , v. hǣð , croft , corner .
