Historical Forms

  • Radway Green 1831 Bry

Etymology

Radway Green (110–7754) [ˈrædə], Radway Green 1831 Bry. This seems to be an old compound, though no early spellings have been found. The name appears to mean 'green at a road-way', from rād and weg (cf. rode- way), with grēne 2 , cf. Radway Wa 272, Rodey Lane 241infra . It may be that the wide lane through this hamlet was a major road in former times, cf. 144.
