Etymology

From lēah 'a wood, a clearing', and an OE  pers.n. Bæd (d )a or Bead (d )a . The -i -, -y - spellings represent a reduced form of -ing-, fully represented in only one late copy in the spelling Badingley .Cf. Faddiley, Baddington 142, 131infra .
